Burnt Bean Co. Vying for Best Chef in Texas Award
SEGUIN, Texas – The City of Seguin is partnering with the Seguin Independent School District to host a watch party to cheer on Burnt Bean Co. chefs as they vie for the coveted title of “Best Chef: Texas” during the James Beard Awards, an annual celebration of chefs, restauranteurs and industry leaders.
Ernest Servantes and David Kirkland, the dynamic duo behind Burnt Bean Co.’s wildly popular craft barbecue, are among five finalists for the award and title. They will be celebrated at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on Monday, June 5, 2023, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
The community is invited to come together and view the award ceremony at 5:30 pm Monday, June 5 via a livestream watch party on the video scoreboard at Matador Stadium, located at 1315 E. Cedar in Seguin. The livestream will be broadcast on www.eater.com
“This is a free event for anyone who would like to come out, show support and cheer on our hometown BBQ pitmasters as they represent Seguin at the ‘academy awards’ of the culinary industry,” said Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen. “We are very proud of their accomplishments and wish them all the best in Chicago,” she said.In addition to being selected as finalists for the James Beard Foundation Awards, Burnt Bean is ranked #4 on Texas Monthly’s Top 50 Texas BBQ Joints and was voted Best BBQ Joint in the 2021 BBQ Battle sponsored by GVEC.
The James Beard Awards, considered to be among the nation’s most prestigious honors, recognize exceptional talent in the culinary and food media industries.
